OECD pubblish AI in Strategic Foresight report

The OECD has published a report on artificial intelligence, "AI in Strategic Foresight: Reshaping Anticipatory Governance," which examines how artificial intelligence is moving from experimentation to practical application in the field of strategic foresight.

The publication is based on a global survey of 167 professionals from governments, businesses, academia, and civil society to capture the attention of a rapidly transitioning field.

The findings show that the majority of strategic foresight professionals already use AI to identify signals of change, analyze large data sets, and support scenario development, with many reporting significant time savings and increased analytical capacity.

A smaller but growing group is also experimenting with AI as a creative or analytical partner in systems mapping and scenario design.

However, the report also highlights persistent challenges: concerns about accountability, transparency, and bias; technical skills gaps; and uneven access to tools, particularly in the public sector, where data security constraints and unclear guidelines can limit adoption.

Such challenges raise important questions about how to ensure that AI enhances, rather than distorts, strategic forecasting.
